    Im on a well with some iron and maganese .. I have a spin down filter(40 micron), a “three stage cartridge filter” (which includes a 5micron sediment and a carbon filter), a tank iron filter and a water softener . I’ve read and have been told that the “three stage filter” can go between the iron filter and water softener .. would this be ok. I feel if it’s before the iron filter the 5 micron cartridge may get bogged down.. ?

    Hi Gary, I stumbled on your videos for the last handful of years. We have a cottage on a small lake and get a lot of tannins in our water. I was thinking about putting together my own tannin filter. It looks like i may be able to get a mineral tank for a few hundred bucks, possibly a less. I also have a spare brine tank. I haven't looked into any other costs yet. Resin etc. Do you have an opinion or a video on someone doing their own tannin filter system ? I'd love to hear any thoughts you have. Thx

    At 4:08 you said the "hard water has calcium magnesium in it, that's what makes it soft." Then LATER at 4:45 you said the calcium is washed AWAY to make the water soft. I'm so confused. Can you explain how the calcium makes it soft but then when removed makes it softer, please?

    Seems like every 2 years I have constant running after replacing the auto shut off valve so this time I turned off the tank I’ll draw two or three glasses of water, and I don’t hear it. But when I open the tank it just runs forever. Could it also be the tank bladder isn’t pumped enough to give enough pressure to get the ASV to work? I am assuming that is the issue when it’s really warm in Phoenix. Edit: I just replaced the ASV now and it didn’t seem to work Edit: so maybe a pump of air in the bladder will work.

    I know this is an old video but wanted to comment in hopes you see it and can answer. I've recently left city water to well water and have hard/iron water. The house came with a water boss 900 that works quite well. I have 15g hardness with 3ppm iron so I run it at 30 setting per manual. Thanks to your videos I've learned a ton and recently learned I need to clean the media every few months for the iron to not foul. We're currently using a rust defender salt from Morton that works pretty good. Do you think I should also periodically apply iron out to the brine well on top of the rust defense salt use? Thanks for all the support in your videos. You can easily see your passion!

    • @GarytheWaterGuy
      @GarytheWaterGuy День назад

      Yes, we still reply to all videos. I would defenitely use iron out once a year to help with the cleaner in the salt. But, I should also mention that 3 parts per million of iron is more than the water softener can handle long term. I would suggest you consider an iron filter before the water softener like one of these waterestore.com/products/hum-chemical-free-iron-sulphur-manganese-fok-filter-1-5-cube and clean or replace the the injector in your water softener at least once per year . This video shows you how ruclips.net/video/RifowwJpqz8/видео.html

      @@GarytheWaterGuy we have rather limited space in this utility room with no other spaces that work for the extra equipment. We might be able to squeeze that in, and will have to measure and look up the dims to double check. Do you think replacing the water boss 900 with the water boss 900-IF would solve or still not strong enough on the 3ppm?

    I have an old Autotrol 255/460i system which was leaking like a sieve until I purchased a valve disk kit recommended by Pentair to try. Since my plumber was coming over anyway I asked him to install the flappers. That fixed the leak from the valve itself, now I have a lot of water coming out of my drain hose. I haven't tried shutting off the bypass valve (which the video says will determine if the 255 valve is still defective) because the system is in regeneration mode. Water now is really coming out of the drain hose but I read elsewhere during regeneration as much as 66 gallons can be drained during regen. Is this accurate? Also I have the timer set at the right hour of the day but regeneration is occurring at 9 a.m. I thought the system was automatically set for 2 or 2:30 a.m.?

    • @GarytheWaterGuy
      @GarytheWaterGuy День назад

      Quite honestly, I have always hated those old Autotrol valves. They are very finnicky and difficult to problem solve. Yes, you can easily get 66 gallons or more water used during a regeneration with one of those. Yes, with the current time set correctly, it should regenerate at 2:30 am. When you finally get fed up with your old softener, check out one of these waterestore.com/products/hum-deluxe-water-softener-30-000-grain

    OK, so if I have a well that has a jet pump hooked up to what he calls a pressure tank, but mines does not say pressure tank. It says reserve tank. It’s basically the same thing they both hold water inside of a bladder system and the bladder system pressurizes the tank, so that you have normal water pressure like if you were hooked up to city water

    I really like my Sunkey 64 oz. borosilicate glass w/stainless cap & removable silicone seal for $30 from Amazon. +Wide mouth, cheap, no plastics, durable (for a glass jug). -The biggest downside after 6 months of regular use on handyman jobs is the lack of insulation. Unfortunately, I forgot I left it full in the freezer and it broke **while thawing**(!). It was fine when I pulled it out of the freezer, but broke when the glass warmed up quicker than the ice inside. I was shocked it didn't break from the ice! I would totally buy again if I didn't have to leave it out in the heat regularly.

    Helpful details, like showing us what those mysterious tiny beads look like. Curious: what are the beads made of and how do they pull Calcium/iron out of the water? Not the whole chemical process but just nutshell explanation? Thanks much - I’m a city guy - moved to the country, and totally mystified by this strange wonderful system.

      Great question. The beads are a polymer that is charged with sodium and through ion exchange attracts the calcium and magnesium ions from the hard water to make it soft

      If yours is a different brand this information might be helpful but if not you should call your manufacturer

    How long does it take for all of the water to be emptied from the system? I've had the faucet open for about an hour now.

      Usually about 10 minutes or so, did you shut off the supply?

    The fourth reason is that, the client thinks they know better, how to adjust the head, and ends up making a mess of the settings. That's why it's best, to lock it.

      Yes, that’s the theory but in 20 years that only happened to me twice

    Hello, Thank you for these videos, big help. I just started to replace my piston/ seal pack following your vid. However, as I attempted to remove the part I accidentally began to spin that white plastic cog/gear part instead of that whole piece behind it like you did. It caused that threaded shaft thing to move in and out and I don’t remember where its original position was. Is that bad?

      Nope, no problem at all. When you plug it in, it’ll automatically find home by itself

      Water is leaking past the seals, so the valve needs to be rebuilt. We have the rebuild kits here waterestore.com/products/clack-ws1-softener-rebuild-kit-wrench

    Hello I watched your video and was wondering if the UV light does the same as a sediment filter. My well does not have a filter hooked to the line but it does have a UV light. All of this is new to me as a new home owner. Thank you so much for your help. Ms Smith

      No it does not. The sediment filter removes dirt, the UV light kills bacteria. This video might help ruclips.net/video/7yXNY6gbdws/видео.htmlsi=59hm9S7lIhcFpoIt
